Dear Evan Hansen Fans

We need YOU!

We invite YOU to be a part of our show by recording a short video of yourself delivering one or two lines from the list provided below. These videos will be used to create a powerful and emotional video and audio montage that will be featured in the production.

What are we looking for?

In Dear Evan Hansen, the main character, Evan, delivers a moving speech during a school assembly about a fellow student who has passed away. This speech is filmed by someone at the school, and it goes viral. In Act 1, the viral video spreads positively, but in Act 2, things take a darker turn when a note written by one of the characters is revealed, shifting the tone of the reactions.

We are seeking believable reaction videos to what is being posted online in the play, using the lines provided below. Each character appears once in Act 1, where they react positively to the viral speech, and then again in Act 2, when the situation shifts and the responses turn more negative—mirroring how things often play out on the internet.

We want you to record two sets of lines, as indicated in the ‘blocks’ below:

• Set A: A positive reaction, responding to the viral speech from Act 1.

• Set B: A negative/outraged reaction, reflecting the outrage and backlash that unfolds in Act 2.

How do you get involved?

Instructions:

1. Selection: Pick one of the characters below and record yourself saying the line(s) as if you were online posting a reaction video. Each character has 2 sets of lines, so make sure you read them all.

2. Recording Device: You can use either a phone or a laptop to record your video.

3. Setting: Make sure the location where you are filming has good lighting so your face is clearly visible. It should also be quiet enough for your voice to be heard without background noise.

4. Accent: Give us your best Neutral American accent, and say the line(s) written in bold directly to the camera for the character you have chosen!

5. Emotion: The feeling of each line should reflect inspiration, emotion, and being moved by the viral video posted by Evan.

6. Format: Each video must be filmed twice: once in landscape (horizontal) mode and once in portrait (vertical) mode.

7. Submission Deadline: Please send your videos by the end of November 2024. This will give us time to make our selections and edit!

8. Submission Email: Submit your videos to info@hownowbrowncow.co.za. Label your video with the character number you have chosen and your surname. For example Teen Girl 001-Smith.

By submitting your video, you’re giving us permission to use it, along with your image, voice, and likeness, in connection with the production. This includes the right to modify, share, and display your video for the show, as well as for promotional purposes across various platforms. While we may not be able to use every submission, we reserve the right to include or exclude your video at our discretion. Please note that we won't be able to offer any payment or credit for your submission. By participating, you confirm that you have the right to share your video with us, and that your submission doesn’t violate any third-party rights.
